The Universidad Pedagógica Nacional celebrated the official opening of its new language laboratory, a high-impact project developed in partnership with the Agencia Distrital para la Educación Superior, la Ciencia y la Tecnología (Atenea). The initiative will benefit students from the Faculty of Humanities as well as all undergraduate programs.
During the inauguration ceremony, Professor Gerald Eduardo Mateus Ferro, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, emphasized that this space is more than a laboratory; it is a technology hub designed to integrate language learning with digital and computer-based tools. He added that although it will initially serve students from the Department of Languages and the foreign language training program, access will gradually be extended to other programs as availability allows.
For Helberth Choachí, rector of the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional, investment in infrastructure and the improvement of physical spaces seeks to highlight and strengthen the work that students and professors are carrying out in foreign language education.
The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art technology that enables both individual and collaborative interaction. Its features include:
- Simultaneous screen sharing of student work by up to 30 participants.
- Personalized material sent directly by the instructor.
- High-quality audio recording and playback.
- Specialized software for language teaching.
- Headsets that facilitate direct communication between instructor and student without interrupting group work.
For his part, Nicolás Martín, a student in the bachelor’s Program in Spanish and Foreign Languages, noted that the laboratory “is important because it allows us to deepen key competencies such as pronunciation, production, and oral and written comprehension.”
With this new space, the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional reaffirms its leadership in training teachers who are equipped to meet the professional challenges of today’s world, working toward the future and the dignification of the teaching profession.
