The bachelor’s degree in music at the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional takes pride in its outstanding participation in the 49th edition of the Mono Nuñez Festival, one of the most prestigious events in Colombian traditional music. During the festival, our talented students, teachers, and graduates showcased their excellence in various categories, upholding the reputation of our institution.

In the instrumental category, the group Síncopa 2, composed of students from the Universidad Nacional and Universidad Pedagógica Nacional, shone brightly, winning the grand prize. Among the members of this talented ensemble is Federico Gonzalez, a student in our program who is a skilled tiplista, demonstrating his virtuosity and musical talent.

In the vocal category, singer Tinna Mendez deservedly won the grand prize. She was accompanied by an exceptional group, including the distinguished maestro Manuel Antonio Hernandez, a percussion professor in the bachelor’s degree in Music.

The festival also awarded the best original instrumental composition, and we are proud to announce that Maestro German Dario Perez Salazar, a professor in the bachelor’s degree in Music, received recognition for his composition “Las riveras de Pacho.” This piece, dedicated to Maestro Francisco Rivera, who is also a teacher of Clarinet and Educational practice, was masterfully performed by him, accompanied by graduate Diego Blanco.

Juan Diego Beltran, a student in the bachelor’s degree in Music, was honored with the prestigious “Pacho Benavides Award for the Best Tiplista of the Festival.” His virtuosity and mastery of the instrument set him apart from the other participants.

Furthermore, the Symphony Orchestra of the bachelor’s degree in Music, under the direction of the teacher Miguel Angel Casas, a program director, and comprised of teachers and students from the program, had a significant presence at the festival as a special invited ensemble, delighting the audience with several concerts in different event spaces. Their participation demonstrated the artistic quality and dedication of our students and teachers to music.
