The rector of the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional, Helberth Choachí, attented at the presentation of two bills for the recognition of the peasantry, which were presented by Senator Robert Daza, with the support of Congress members Alberto Benavides, Pablo Catatumbo, Catalina Pérez and Gabriel Becerra.
During this space, it was highlighted that more than 14 million people live in the rural areas, so it is essential to work hard so that institutional recognition is not limited but becomes laws and public policy.
Through these efforts, the purpose is to boost rural education that respects and values ancestral knowledge and the realities of rural communities, fostering the integral development of the various rural areas.
Additionally, the goal is to establish a public policy for rural culture to protect traditions, cultural expressions, and ways of life that deserve to be safeguarded and promoted. This project seeks to strengthen rural identity as a pillar of the cultural diversity of our country.
It was also emphasized that both men and women in rural areas should be able to actively participate in the life of their regions and in the political life of the country, without fear, and with the assurance that they will be considered and included.
In this context, Helberth Choachí emphasized that UPN due to to the heritage of rural fathers and mothers, which calls upon this educational community to commit to transforming the conditions of the countryside in Colombia by creating greater and better educational opportunities.
It is important to highlight that article 19 of the Draft Law 195 on Peasant Education establishes the advisory role of the UPN for the development of this policy, reaffirming the responsibility of the UPN with an education that takes into account all populations and making available to society all the knowledge it has generated over the years.
